BANKING WITH A CONSCIENCE. In 1954, an accountant in the San Francisco Controller's office shook up the city's banking scene in a big way. That accountant, George Trelut, hoped to provide a responsible financial institution for his fellow city employees a place for them to obtain affordable loans, save money safely and gain a voice in their own financial experiences.
So the credit union began at George Trelut's kitchen table in his house on Capp Street, but it certainly didn't stop there. Through the years, the credit union continued to grow. And after a few changes in location and name, the credit union became San Francisco Federal Credit Union, a financial hub for those in the city. And we're still growing: In 2013, we expanded our charter to include San Mateo County.
Today, membership at San Francisco Federal Credit Union is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in San Francisco or San Mateo Counties. At San Francisco Federal Credit Union, we aim to exceed your expectations with our philosophy of Uncommonly Good Banking, through all of your financial milestones.
THE CREDIT UNION DIFFERENCE. We're not a bank, we're better.
San Francisco Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution. As a member, you don't just get an account, you own a little piece of the credit union. And that means you can have a voice in how the credit union operates. The credit union's Board of Directors consists of members like you. The Board is elected by other members to make decisions in the best interest of the credit union's account holders
